The Australian Institute of Administrative Law, Victorian Chapter, invites you to a hybrid presentation: (online via Microsoft Teams and in person) on
An introduction to the Bugmy Bar Book and its application in legal proceedings
Presenters: Crystal Triggs and Sophie Parsons
Chair: Perry Q Wood, Managing Partner, Australian Migration Lawyers
Synopsis
The Bugmy Bar Book is a free, evidence-based resource for lawyers and legal decision-makers, as well as policymakers and other professionals.
The Bugmy Bar Book has published chapters and reports that contain summaries of key research about the experiences of trauma (including refugee background), socioeconomic inequality, structural disadvantage, and strengths-based rehabilitation. Chapters may provide an evidence base to support legal advocacy and decision-making and are intended to promote improved understanding of the experiences of people who are brought into contact with the legal system.
While a key function of this project is to assist legal practitioners in the preparation and presentation of material in sentencing proceedings to establish the application in Bugmy v The Queen (2013) 249 CLR 571, these publications may have relevance in other legal practice areas and have been relied upon in civil law practice areas and proceedings before tribunals
