An evening seminar on Proportionality and human rights in Queensland, in person in Brisbane and online
The QLD Chapter of the AIAL is presenting a seminar on “Proportionality analysis: How to balance (and limit) human rights in Queensland”, to be presented by Dr Nicky Jones and chaired by Saul Holt KC. This seminar is co-hosted by the Human Rights Law Association.
In this presentation, Nicky will talk about the Queensland Human Rights Act’s (HRA) structured approach to proportionality analysis, and the range of relevant factors which may be considered and balanced before a human right can be limited, with reference to provisions of the HRA and Queensland cases which have discussed and applied them. Nicky is a former French lecturer and translator who now teaches public international law and human rights and discrimination law at the University of Southern Queensland.
Saul was Chief Counsel at Victoria Legal Aid until 2013 and has appeared in leading human rights cases in Victoria and Queensland.
